St Thomas more has
invested heavily in ensuring students are actively engaging in technology to
ensure they become digital citizens who can confidently engage in the
technology demands of the 21st Century. In an age where technology is
rapidly changing the way people live and work it is essential that our young
people have the skills to engage in; problem solve with; and continuously adapt
to changing technology. They are engaged in technology in three main ways:
To Communicate
·
Each student has the opportunity to
collaborate in safe digital environments
·
Students have multiple
opportunities to develop mastery as they have more control over when, where and
how they learn
·
Students can have access to
knowledge and the opportunity to re-engage in learning opportunities as many
times as they need
·
Students learn to be more
autonomous and self-directed and have more choice over how they communicate
their learning
To Collaborate
·
Students are part of a community
of learners who work collaboratively
·
Each students has the opportunity
to receive feedback from teachers and peers
·
Technology provides students with
an audience and purpose for their work
·
Technology allows students to
make their thinking visible
·
Ideas and work can be quickly and
easily shared
To be Creative
·
Using technology promotes
creativity as students learn to manipulate text, sound and images in a variety
of ways for a range of purposes
·
Students have many different
avenues for presenting learning as knowledge can be expressed multi-modally,
not just text but also images, sounds, animations and narration
·
Students develop problem solving
skills and begin to engage in the exciting world of programming
