Languages Indonesian

At St Thomas More, children from Prep to Year 6 study Indonesian language and culture. Students are assessed and reported against the Achievement Standard of the Australian Curriculum v9 in relation to their appropriate Year/Band: Prep, Years 1-2, Years 3-4, and Years 5-6.

While Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language) is the main focus, students also have the opportunity to explore this country’s rich and diverse culture.

A highlight of the year is our annual Minggu Indonesia (Indonesian Week). During this week the students experience the amazing culture of Indonesia through music and dance workshops, art activities such as mask making and batik, food tasting and Indonesian games. These experiences are designed to give the children a greater insight into Indonesian culture.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in language competitions – spoken and written organised by the Sunshine Coast Modern Language Teachers Association.
